"Kawaikui Afternoon"
11 x 14
Palette Knife
The day was beautiful,
so I packed up my paints and headed out to Kawaikui.
I found a great spot in the shade of the trees and had planned to paint in my usual direction, looking towards Koko Crater. However, taking a peek the other way, I found it to be more interesting and decided to give it a try instead.
It was nice and cool, but as the sun dipped lower towards the horizon, the ocean turned to full on glare and the scene became gray and washed out. Luckily, I was far enough along to be able to remember what it had looked like earlier, and quickly finished up.
The afternoon glare was an unexpected challenge, but I was happy to have tried something different, and was pleased with the results.
