I love this view, and have painted it several times before, but never plein air.
The painting was going along great, and then, from out of nowhere, came a total downpour. No warning, just huge, heavy drops of water falling from the sky while the sun was still shining!
I had painted in rain similar to this on Maui once, and knew it's not really a problem as long as the wind doesn't kick up too much. After about 10 minutes, the deluge calmed down and I was able to continue on.
Although my palette looks slightly flooded, oil and water do not mix.
I was completely drenched. Where did my nice blue sky go?
Luckily, the sun came back out even stronger than before.
You never know when
Mother Nature is going to dish out a little Liquid Sunshine!
